Veizla — the Nordic hall banquet
Among the Scandinavians of the Edda age, meals center around the veizla, the great feast served in the hall (skáli) at long tables. No starter-main-dessert: roasted meats from the central fire, flatbread (flatbrauð), and barley porridge are shared, all washed down with mead and beer. Offerings (blót) to the gods and travel provisions (nesti) extend this same hearth cuisine.
Signature : Mead (mjöðr) and the regenerating boar
Fermented honey into mead is the sacred drink of the gods of Asgard; the boar Sæhrímnir, eaten each evening at Valhöll and reborn each morning, embodies divine abundance. These two signatures permeate Baldr's entire table.
