Anecdotes
In 1980, Coluche announced his candidacy for the 1981 presidential election, at first as a provocation, under the slogan “All together to give them a good kick in the backside.” Some polls credited him with up to 16% of voting intentions, which worried the political class so much that he ultimately withdrew his candidacy.
On 26 September 1985, on the airwaves of Europe 1, Coluche launched the idea of the Restos du Cœur: “I've got this little idea […] in case there are folks out there who have things to give.” The charity distributed nearly 8.5 million meals in its very first winter.
A speed enthusiast, Coluche set a motorcycle world record in 1985 on a prototype, exceeding 250 km/h. It was in fact on a motorcycle that he met his death near Opio, in the Alpes-Maritimes, on 19 June 1986.
For the first Enfoirés concert, Coluche brought together singing stars such as Jean-Jacques Goldman, Michel Platini and many others in order to fund the Restos. This musical charity tradition continues every year, more than thirty years after his death.
In 1984, Coluche won the César for Best Actor for his dramatic role in *Tchao Pantin* by Claude Berri, surprising audiences who had known him only as a comedian. He thus proved that he was also a talented actor.
