Libation of Milk, Honey, and Pomegranate for the Lady of Waters
A cool, rosy drink: milk sweetened with honey, sharpened with tart pomegranate juice. Pour a portion to the earth, drink the rest.

Approach the spring, and fear not: it is I who make the living waters flow and the cows' udders swell. First pour a cup to the earth, for the waters that will return; keep the other for your lips. You shall mix in the white milk of your herds, the honey that my flowers have nourished, and the clear blood of the thousand-seeded pomegranate—for through it I multiply all that lives. Drink slowly, and remember who quenches you.

Libation of Milk, Honey, and Pomegranate for the Lady of Waters
A cool, rosy drink: milk sweetened with honey, sharpened with tart pomegranate juice. Pour a portion to the earth, drink the rest.
Why this dish? Sources report that milk and the first fruits of the herds are dedicated to Anahita, and that libations are poured near consecrated waters. This drink, inspired by these offerings (not a reproduced ritual), combines the milk of the beasts, honey, and the juice of her emblematic pomegranate.

Ingredients (period version)
- Fresh whole milk — one cup per person (gift of the herds, base)
- Honey — a spoonful (sweetness)
- Pomegranate juice — a dash (acidity, color, symbol)
- Spring water — a little (extender, ritual link)
Ingredients
- Very cold whole milk — 500 ml (base)
- Liquid honey (wildflower) — 2 tbsp (sweetness)
- Pure pomegranate juice — 150 ml (acidity and color)
- Orange blossom water — a few drops (optional) (flavor)
- Fresh pomegranate seeds — 2 tbsp (decoration)
Method
- Gently warm a small amount of milk and dissolve the honey in it, then let cool.
- Mix the honeyed milk with the rest of the very cold milk.
- Add the pomegranate juice in a stream just before serving (it turns the milk pink; do not heat too much to avoid curdling).
- Flavor with a drop of orange blossom water if desired, pour into cups.
- Top with fresh pomegranate seeds and serve immediately, very cold.
How it was made : Libations of milk, water, and sweet drinks accompany water cults in ancient Iran; milk and the first fruits of the herds are linked to Anahita as goddess of fertility. The mixture of milk and acidic fruit juice is delicate: it was drunk fresh and prepared on the spot, without refrigeration.
The contemporary twist : Serve in a clear glass to show the cream-and-pink gradient forming: a "milk of the stars" that children love.
