Campus Avocado Composed Salad

Why this dish? The self-assembled lunch salad is the dietary routine of a Silicon Valley engineer: quick, fresh, no cooking, perfect between two meetings at PARC. The Hass avocado, grown in California, is the signature ingredient. For Goldberg, it's the typical workday meal in Palo Alto.

Composed lunch salad (déjeuner-salade modulaire de cafétéria)

A generous green salad topped with avocado, hard-boiled egg, tomatoes, and seeds, dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. The light, colorful lunch emblematic of California cuisine.

A good tool lets you compose yourself. It's the same on the plate: I'd start with a bed of lettuce and add whatever the cafeteria had fresh that day — half an avocado, an egg, some seeds. We ate quickly, often in front of a screen, but we ate living food. Squeeze a lemon over it, a little olive oil, and you go back to coding with a clear mind.
