Works & Achievements

Kissing Coppers (2004)

Stencil depicting two British police officers kissing, created in Brighton. The work challenges social norms and authority with humour.

Depiction of a rioter throwing a bouquet of flowers instead of a Molotov cocktail. A pacifist symbol that has become one of Banksy's most recognisable images.

Large-scale art installation parodying Disney theme parks. This collective project brought together 58 artists and addressed contemporary crises with dark humour.

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)

Documentary directed by Banksy about street art and his own myth, nominated for an Oscar. The film questions the authenticity and commercialisation of art.

Bethlehem Wall Murals (2005)

Series of paintings made on the Israeli separation barrier, including trompe-l'œil and escape scenes. These works brought global attention to the daily lives of Palestinians.

Game Changer (2020)

Work donated to Southampton Hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic, showing a child playing with a superhero nurse figurine. Sold at auction in aid of the NHS for ÂŁ16.8 million.

Anecdotes

In 2018, during an auction at Sotheby's in London, the work 'Girl with Balloon' partially self-destructed inside its frame just after being sold for over one million pounds sterling. A shredder mechanism hidden in the frame had been installed by Banksy himself years earlier. The work, renamed 'Love is in the Bin', was later resold in 2021 for approximately ÂŁ18.5 million.

In 2005, Banksy managed to secretly smuggle his own works into several major museums, including the British Museum, the Louvre, MoMA, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He hung his pieces on the walls without staff noticing, with some remaining on display for several days before being discovered.

In 2015, Banksy opened 'Dismaland', a dystopian theme park in Weston-super-Mare, England. Presented as a 'bemusement park', this temporary installation parodied Disney parks and drew attention to the migration crisis, mass surveillance, and consumer society. Over 150,000 people visited it in five weeks.

In 2005, Banksy travelled to the West Bank to create nine murals on the Israeli separation wall. Among them, a little girl lifted over the wall by balloons and a trompe-l'œil depicting an opening onto an idyllic landscape. These works drew international attention to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In 2010, Banksy directed a documentary film titled 'Exit Through the Gift Shop', which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film blurs the line between art and hoax, and no one could confirm whether Banksy was actually present at the ceremony, true to his legendary anonymity.

Daily Life

Morning

A street artist like Banksy often starts the day late, after a night of work. Waking up is followed by checking social media and news outlets to monitor the reception of his latest pieces. He spends time sketching new ideas in notebooks and planning his next interventions.

Afternoon

The afternoon is devoted to preparing stencils in a secret studio: careful cutting with a craft knife, composition tests, and choosing locations. Banksy scouts the walls and spots he wants to use, photographing potential sites and studying police patrol patterns and pedestrian traffic.

Evening

After dark, Banksy gears up with spray cans, stencils, and a discreet backpack before heading to scouted locations. He works quickly, often within minutes, sometimes accompanied by a lookout. Once the piece is finished, he photographs it before disappearing into the night.

Food

A contemporary British urban artist's diet is that of an ordinary city dweller: meals eaten on the go, fish and chips, sandwiches, tea. Nothing particularly distinctive is known about Banksy's eating habits due to his complete anonymity.

Clothing

Banksy dresses to go unnoticed: jeans, hoodie, trainers, cap. During his interventions, he sometimes wears a high-visibility safety vest to blend in among urban workers. Anonymity dictates a deliberately plain and inconspicuous style.

Housing

Very little is known about where Banksy lives. He is said to have lived in Bristol in his youth before settling in the London area. His lifestyle remains deliberately secretive, and he prioritises absolute discretion to preserve his anonymity.

AI Prompt
Gritty urban street art aesthetic with high contrast black and white stencil work on weathered concrete and brick walls. Raw textures of peeling paint, crumbling plaster, and rusted metal surfaces. Bold graphic compositions inspired by punk zines and political propaganda posters. Occasional splashes of vivid red against monochrome backgrounds. Dripping paint and spray overshoot adding rawness. Urban decay juxtaposed with playful or satirical imagery — rats, children, soldiers, police officers. Documentary photography style with natural lighting, shallow depth of field on street details. Muted desaturated color palette for environments with stark black stencil figures. Banksy's signature blend of dark humor and social commentary visualized through simple yet powerful iconic imagery.

Sound Ambience

Ambiance urbaine nocturne mêlant le souffle des bombes aérosol, les bruits de la rue et la tension d'une activité clandestine dans les ruelles de Bristol ou Londres.

AI Prompt
Nighttime urban atmosphere in Bristol or London. Distant traffic hum and occasional car passing on wet asphalt. The sharp hiss and rattle of an aerosol spray can being shaken, followed by short bursts of spraying paint against a concrete wall. Footsteps on pavement, quick and cautious. A dog barking in the distance. The low rumble of a train passing on nearby tracks. Faint dubstep or trip-hop bass reverberating from a nearby club. Police sirens wailing far away, creating tension. The click and slice of a utility knife cutting through cardboard. Rustling of plastic bags and the clinking of spray cans in a backpack. Brief silence punctuated by the flutter of a stencil being pressed against a wall.
