Ingredients
- Coconut milk — 400 ml (base)
- Sweetened condensed milk — 1 can (400 g) (sweetness and creaminess)
- Evaporated milk — 200 ml (smoothness)
- Ground cinnamon + nutmeg — 1 tsp + 1 pinch (spices)
- Vanilla — 1 tsp (fragrance)
- Lime zest — 1 lime (freshness)
- White rum — 150 ml (optional) (adult version)
Method
- Blend the coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk until perfectly smooth.
- Add cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and lime zest; blend again.
- Incorporate the rum for the festive version (or omit for the family version).
- Bottle and refrigerate at least 2 h; shake before serving very cold.
How it was made : Kremas (or cremas) descends from sweetened milk drinks of Creole festivities, where hand-pressed coconut milk replaced modern canned milks. It was prepared for baptisms, Christmas, and great rejoicings, and was willingly offered to spirits on domestic altars.
The contemporary twist : Serve in a small bluish flask, nestled among seashells, like a treasure brought up from the bottom of the water.
