Why this dish? Under Amaterasu's sun, young spring herbs grow. Rice porridge with wild shoots is the humble, purifying daily meal, celebrating the return of light and greenery after winter.
When my first rays warm the frozen earth, young shoots pierce the melting snow. Pick them in the morning, still beaded with dew, and let them melt into the rice that simmers gently. This porridge is no feast: it is the simple remedy that washes away the heaviness of winter. Eat it in silence, facing the east, and thank the light that returns.
