Why this dish? Detroit, where Aaliyah spent part of her childhood, invented its own cult street food: the Coney dog, sold in 'Coney Islands', those diners open around the clock that are part of the city's soul.

How it was made : The Coney dog originated in early 20th-century Detroit, created by Greek and Macedonian immigrants who opened diners called 'Coney Islands'. The beanless meat sauce is a local pride that sets Detroit apart from other cities. It's popular, fast, and cheap.
The contemporary twist : Mini versions as 'sliders' for a buffet, lined up on a board like a playlist of bites.
