Anecdotes

J.K. Rowling has said that she gave Hermione her own childhood character: studious, anxious about failing, and desperately eager to do well. She confided that Hermione was an exaggerated version of herself at the same age.

In the very first book, Hermione constantly corrects Ron on the pronunciation of the spell "Wingardium Leviosa": "It's Levi-O-sa, not Levio-SA!" This line has become one of the most quoted in the entire series.

Actress Emma Watson, who plays Hermione in the films from 2001, had never acted in a real movie before: she had only performed in school plays. She auditioned at age nine and filmed all eight movies until she was twenty-one.

The name "Hermione" experienced a surge in popularity after the books were released; Rowling chose it partly so that no little girl would be teased at school for having it, thinking it was already rare and literary.

In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", Hermione is petrified by the basilisk's indirect gaze after figuring out, on her own, the nature of the monster: the decisive parchment is found clutched in her hand, proof that she solved the riddle before anyone else.
