Morning Green Smoothie
A tall, bright green glass: spinach or kale blended with banana, apple, lemon, and a touch of ginger. Tangy, fresh, and slightly sweet — the liquid energy of a man who runs on plants.

In the morning, before even thinking about the day's script, I make myself this tall green glass — spinach, a banana, apple, a squeeze of lemon, a knob of ginger, and you blend it all. That's my way of filling the tank without weighing on the planet. People think eating green is sad; taste this and come talk to me. One sip, and you feel the day can begin.

Why this dish? The One Meal a Day program championed by Cameron and Suzy Amis Cameron makes a green smoothie a morning ritual: a large dose of leafy greens and fruit to start the day on plants. It's the archetype of the drink he has publicly advocated since becoming vegan.

Ingredients (period version)
- Fresh spinach or kale — two large handfuls (green base)
- Banana — one (sweetness and body)
- Apple — one (sweet freshness)
- Lemon — a squeeze (acidity)
- Fresh ginger — a small piece (zing)
- Water or plant-based milk — as needed (liquid)
Ingredients
- Fresh spinach (or kale) — 60 g (2 handfuls) (green base)
- Banana — 1 (ideally frozen) (creaminess, sweetness)
- Apple — 1 (freshness)
- Lemon juice — 1/2 lemon (acidity)
- Fresh ginger — 1 cm (zing)
- Cold water or plant-based milk — 250 ml (liquid)
- Chia seeds (optional) — 1 tsp (omega-3)
Method
- Wash the greens and apple; cut the apple into pieces (skin on), peel the banana.
- Put all ingredients in the blender, liquid first.
- Blend on high for 45-60 seconds until perfectly smooth.
- Adjust consistency with a little water if too thick; serve immediately, well chilled.
How it was made : The green smoothie as we know it was born with the democratization of the home blender in the 20th century and the plant-based wave of the 2000s-2010s. Previously, leafy greens were eaten cooked or in salads — drinking them raw and blended is a recent practice.
The contemporary twist : Serve in a tall glass with a gradient that recalls the water column: bright green at the top, darker toward the bottom.
